The WHO they came, they saw, they conquered Tampa, Florida at the Amalie Arena on the first night of the US tour. Joan Jett opened and it was a great combination. Joan's NYC hard rocking, punk like appearance and the raging WHO. Roger Daltrey is 71 years old! What an incredible voice for a man of 71 he can still do that scream at the end of the roll drum In "Won't Get Fooled Again". Pete Townshend proved why he just may be the greatest living rock and roll guitarist alive today. Townshend has always had a way of dominating an arena or stadium with his screaming guitar. He did nothing less than dominate Tampa on night one of what appears to be an incredible final farewell tour to those of us fans who have loved them for decades. The WHO ran through their entire career even bringing out extremely obscure songs for deep, deep fans. They played a Quick One, sort of a mini rock opera, pre-Tommy which Pete explained had only been played live once in their entire career and that was in the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. This means the WHO are keenly aware of the absolute fanatics that attend the concerts and are not above rewarding these fans with a nugget of rock gold and history by taking a chance and playing something like A Quick One. I certainly hope Roger can sustain that scream from Won't Get Fooled Again. They also did crowd pleasers such as Who Are You? and Love Reign O'er Me and many others. Here is a great video a fan put together of the event. I can only hope that the Rolling Stones can match this concert with their upcoming tour of America! Mick and Keith take a look at this and see if you can top it!
